HOW TO ENROLL IN FOCUS ON ETHICS

Setting Up a Seminar is Easy!
1. Recruit: Talk with colleagues and see who is interested in this innovative approach to professional development in character education. You may want to Print the Brochure and make copies for them.
The collegial discussion format is designed for groups of 6 to 10 teachers. Smaller groups are okay, but discussions will not be as rich. Larger groups present a problem because, with everyone participating, the discussions and meetings take longer than planned. If you have more than 10 teachers interested, please split into two or more groups.
2. Plan: Once a group is interested, hold a brief planning meeting or use email to get organized. You need to settle:
3. Order Focus on Ethics materials and register your group. See How to Order. Your kit will arrive within a month, including agendas, step-by-step instructions for each meeting, attendance logs, handouts, videos, activities, assignments and teacher materials.
Who should facilitate Focus on Ethics?
Usually one of the teachers interested in the training agrees to serve as the facilitator. Sometimes a support person such as a counselor or reading coach facilitates. No prior experience as a facilitator is needed; the Facilitator's Guide provides step-by-step instructions as well as tips and advice. The facilitator should have an email address and basic familiarity with email and the Internet, but this is not critical if he or she can get help, for example, from a librarian or technology teacher.
Where should meetings be held?
The first meeting should be held in a computer cluster or library so all participants can practice logging on and locating web-based resources. After that, any convenient and quiet classroom, library or meeting room will do. At least one computer with Internet access is recommended (but not required).
